Tomorrow I get to install a new OpteMAN connection, so I’ll be configuring that equipment. Other than that, I will try to fit in some Super Mario Bros. 3. LOL, still a great game.

We are going to try something new with this post, I will keep a running journal of what happens throughout the day. Lets see how a Windows System Admin works.

Driving to the office:

2 Emails, 1 Blackberry Message, and a phone call all informing me that one of the exchange servers is down. FANTASTIC ! It is Monday.

8:00AM:

All of the mail stores on the 4th exchange server are dismounted. Why, who knows, nothing in the event viewer, your guess is as good as mine. This little hiccup only took out 6 Campuses, probably around 2000 mailboxes. Thanks Microsoft. Oh and BTW Chris, certificate expires tomorrow. Oh well, add it to the list, at least stores are mounted now.

8:10AM:

Filemaker server is down. I HATE FILEMAKER!!! This is on an old PowerMac G4 just look at it below. The only thing this server is good for is pissing people off. With I could rid the infrastructure of this piece and the “lasso” that holds the old site together.

9:15AM:

Common Dell, sending the wrong battery and claiming it will fit, we just need to try it. You be the judge, does it fit? I didn’t think so. Rodney, we all make mistakes, just send the correct battery and lets move on.

9:30AM:

Ok, looks like i need to recruit some bigger guns, Exchange 2003 says it does, says it doesn’t support UC certificates. Really need an answer and soon, did I mention certificate expires tomorrow.

9:31AM:

Word of advice vendors, when I say I love the product, QUIT CALLING everyday! I already like it, you are just annoying me at this point. I have many many many things I am juggling, your phone calls do not need to be one of them.

10:20:AM:

How does it make sense in Outlook 2007 that when you select a contact and click delete it deletes the whole distribution list. Lucky you can pull the names out of a prior sent message.

10:30AM:

The guy I was needing help from just walked by my office. QUICK ! ! ! Grab Him ! ! !

11:00AM:

Got some good information form him, Exchange 2003 does support UC certs, Outlook 2003 isn’t a big fan of them though.

12:00PM:

All is quiet in the place, no other issues have reared their heads. The guy i needed help from is going to go ahead and renew the certificate on there now, so email doesn’t break, and we will work on using the UC Certificate later. Watching a video on it HERE while I wait to go to lunch.

12:20PM:

Still waiting to go to lunch, had time to call the AC guy for the house, A-Coil leaks all the coolant out. Makes for a wonderful Texas night.

1:00PM:

Screw it, I’m hungry, going to Subway. Eat Fresh!

SUBWAY® is a registered trademark of Doctor's Associates Inc.

2:00PM:

Codian IPVCR started screwing up again. This is just about a daily, I mean, this is a daily occurrence now. Want to know what a 409 Terabyte file looks like?

That’s what one looks like, and the best part, it wont delete. That is one way to hose a storage system.

3:30PM:

Still do not have that certificate replaced, time is running out. I am at the mercy of that guy from earlier, as I do not have the account to renew it. Tick Tock, Tick Tock, I have till noon tomorrow till 8000 people start calling helpdesk.

4:30PM

File finally got removed, took up 639 gig on my NFS server. WOW! In the words of the wise Eric Cartman, “Screw you guys, I’m going home.”

Looks like playtime is over, back in the office this week. Shouldn’t have too much going on though. If I’m correct, all I can think that I have to do this week is install a new router at a single location, that and fix terminal services in Windows Server 2008 for a remote location.
